Desdemona watched aghast as the wolves changed easily into the familar human forms and walked, some ran, into the buffett. How could they do that? She had heard tails of extreme pain, was it true? Did they simply grow numb? She was shaken from this revere by Roxie's question and felt a tinge of sadness for Jesse. Couldn't they realize what had happened. She cleared her throat as they walked in. "I think they were fighting." She said in a whisper.
Donahue was troubled by Jesse's sadness and focused his power on him, as it was not too different from Jasper's. He offered his input. "He seems upset and a bit...angry. I don't know about Leah though..." He said, quieting as they entered the buffett and approached the pack.

Jesse slumped against the back of the booth, his head back and his arms over his chest. He didn't look up as his family slid in quietly around him or when Nathan shook his shoulder and demanded what was wrong. He huffed and shook his head, concentrating on keeping the tears away from his eyes.
Nathan sighed and dropped his hand, looking sadly at Jasper and the other vampires, as if the look would be a sufficient apology for his brother's behavior. "Sorry about that. What ya' guys wanna eat?" He asked, pointing at the loaded buffett tables.
Reggie fidgited in his seat next to Jesse and looked at his empty plate. When Nathan asked about food, his stomach gurgled but Reggie qualmed. He didn't want to be rude to the vampires though, so he stood and got four hot-dogs, a large bowl of mac-and-cheese and half a loaf of bread. He sat down and began to eat, filling the silence with his chewing.
Roxie sighed, a bit peeved at Jesse. This was exactly the way he had acted after she had broken up with him, was that what happened? She got up and grabbed a heaping plate of spagetti for Nathan and a large portion of soup for her. She sat back down next to Nathan and smiled sadly at the vampires. "You guys can go get something to eat." She said, her attempt at humor falling flat.

Jasper looked strangely around the pack, his interest peaked by Donahue's power, not even knowing that the male had a power. He decided he would ask later, out of the wolve's company. As Roxie sat back down, her soup sloshing in her bowl, Jasper smiled at her suggestion. He slowly stood, and spoke to the vampires.
"Donahue, Desdemona, care to accompany me to the buffet? You look hungry." He said with a friendly smirk. He walked with them toward the lines of food, and spoke so swiftly that even the wolves would not be able to detect it.
"I realize the scent is less than appetizing, but you must try to hold you stomach. Do not worry, we will not be eating it. The wolves will." He hung back and spoke to Donahue alone.
"You never told me you had a power; may I ask what it is? It seems to be similar to my own, and it intruiges me."

Desdemona smiled at Roxie's attempt at humor and giggled softly, trying to reassure the girl and ease the tension at the table. She forced herself not to grimace at the food and grabbed hot dogs, something she knew that Reggie would eat being she wouldn't . She wasn't paying attention to Jasper and Donahue and she went back to the table without them, sitting by Roxie.
Donahue got up with Jasper and began to load his plate with salad and breadsticks, not bothered by the scent. He had been vampire for the shortest time out of the three of them, but he was still used to human scents though they were unappatizing to him. He looked up at Jasper and smiled at his question. "My power? Well, I suppose it's kinda like yours, as in I can feel emotions. I look at someone and I can see there emotions, like different colors moving around them. And, if they feel strongly enough, sometimes I can kinda see into there head to see what's wrong." He said as he shoveled pasta on his platter.

Jasper took a plate and piled food atop it. Back in his human days, he had never tasted food like this, artificial food as he called it being that it did not look edible, despite the fact that he thirsted for blood as substanence.
"Interesting. Very interesting. Have you any perception about Jesse? He has never been this way before. I have tried to calm him by my own means, but it is only a mask, and cannot differ true emotion. He is a good man, he does not deserve this anguish we feel from him. Is there anything we can do?"
Jasper asked him sincerely, hoping that he would say that there was some way to lift his misery.

Donahue frowned and looked at Jesse, solemn and quiet at the table. "Well, I can tell just by looking at him that something's wrong, but not much other wise. I don't know him well enough to really look, but my guess is something happened between him and Leah." He said with a soft sigh. He didn't know from experience how heartbreak felt, but he had encountered many who had, and Jesse's symptoms almost fit to a T.

Jasper saw as Donahue looked over at Jesse, no doubt trying to decode his outer shell of gloominess.
"There were quite close, weren't they? I cannot believe that she simply left him, and without any foreseen cause either. I will check the exterior of her house later tonight to see if there was any sort of threat, just to be safe. The poor guy. I believe the best thing for him right now is to let him be, and hopefully soon, he will recover."

Donahue nodded silently, his brow pulled taut into a confused frown as he tried to see how Leah could have left Jesse. He doubted that it was without cause, their bond was too strong for that. But, Jesse was in no mood to talk about it, so it was best forgotten. Donahue shrugged and sat down at the booth, not touching his food.
Desdemona sat staring at her full plate, her hands in knots in her lap. The silence was too thick, as if it was a box constricing her space. She looked at every face around her, quickly skipping over Jesse, to see if they were about to speak. She sighed and forced herself to smile. "So, Jasper, do you come here often?" She asked, trying to lighten the atmosphere, but not daring to talk to the wolves, as they all were staring intently at Jesse as if they could stare into his head to see what was wrong.

Jasper chuckled at Desdemona's comment, though he knew the pack's miind was elsewhere.
"No." He answered. "I usually only eat what I can kill." Smirking, he felt it alright to joke with the wolves as company. "Do you like it here so far in Forks?" He asked with sincerity. "It truly is a wonderful place to live for people like us." He said, inserting a hidden meaning within his words

Jesse paid no attention to those around him. He stared blankly at the table in front of him, his hands spread wide on either side. Despite what he felt inside, he looked somewhat calm, save for the terrible burning in his eyes, like he had just seen his whole family shot. The face of a tortured man. He could hear Jasper and Donahue talking about him, but didn't care. Nothing mattered anymore.
Nathan sighed and turned away from his brother, pain written across his face in creased lines of worry. His brother was hurting, and it hurt him too. If only he knew what was wrong, he could stop the unbelievable pain that was eating him from inside out. He looked at Jasper and Donahue, wondering if they could help his brother with their powers. Anger flared inside of him, why weren't they doing anything. He snarled and slammed his fist on the table loudly.
Reggie jumped when Nathan hit the table and saw his gaze. He didn't need to be in wolf form to know what he was thinking, being his brother and seeing the anger on his face was enough. He touched Nathan's shoulder gently and whispered, "It wouldn't do anything, he's too far beyond help. When we get out of here, we'll take him home, tie him up until he gets out of this." He said, so that everyone but Jesse could hear. Reggie wasn't even sure if Jesse could hear anything, was he replaying whatever happened in the forest in his head?
Roxie whimpered softly as she watched Jesse. It hurt her beyond belief to see someone she loved in pain. She had hurt when he had loved Leah, she didn't admit it to herself, but she still loved Jesse more than a sister. She remembered when he would flirt with her, and she would snidley turn him down, only for the fun of watching him try harder the next time. But now, he was defeated, his heart completly gone. Was it up to Roxie to show him how to love - to live - again?
